«A world first. One facade and the roof of the building constructed by SwissINSO, in collaboration with Lausanne's EPFL university and Romande Energie, are covered with photovoltaic panels»
In recently inaugurated EPFL solar park, one building stands out from the others. The building, which was equipped by SwissINSO, does not go unnoticed due to its façade, the whole of which is blue. But it is not only its alluring appearance which is noteworthy, for the façade also has a functionality that is totally innovative. «This is a world first," said Rafic Hanbali, CEO of the company. Up until now, solar panels have all been black or dark blue and unattractive, with visible components such as cells, bars, or tubes. They have traditionally been used only on certain parts of roofs, and practically never on facades.»
